3 people died due to collapse of under construction building in Kolkata, more than 40 feared buried, Army deployed
Kolkata: A major construction accident came to light in Kolkata, the capital of West Bengal, on Tuesday, when a part of an under-construction warehouse located in Taratala area suddenly collapsed. So far, three people have been confirmed dead in this accident, while many other workers are feared to be trapped under the debris. After the accident, there was an atmosphere of chaos in the area and relief and rescue operations were started immediately.
Transport Depot Road incident
This incident took place on Transport Depot Road located in Taratala police station area of West Kolkata. According to eyewitnesses, a large number of workers were engaged in construction work at the time of the accident. Suddenly a part of the structure collapsed and many people were buried under it. The local people first started the rescue work and tried to rescue the people trapped in the debris.
As soon as information about the incident was received, teams of police, fire department, civil defense and disaster management reached the spot. The administration immediately started the relief operation and deployed special rescue teams. In the initial efforts, many people were evacuated safely, while the injured were admitted to nearby hospitals.

The state administration has also activated the disaster management control room to help the people. Helpline numbers have been issued to provide information to the people related to the accident and their families. A large number of local residents and family members of the laborers also reached the incident site, due to which a huge crowd gathered in the area.
Senior leaders of the state have expressed grief over this accident. Expressing condolences to the families of the deceased, the Chief Minister said that the government stands with the affected families and will provide all possible assistance. He said that relief and rescue work is being carried out on a war footing so that all the people trapped under the debris can be taken out as soon as possible.
Four teams involved in the rescue operation
Considering the seriousness of the situation, four teams of the Eastern Command of the Indian Army have also been included in the rescue operation. Army engineers, medical staff and rescue experts are carrying out the operation in collaboration with NDRF, SDRF and Kolkata Police. Special equipment is being used to remove heavy concrete debris.
The administration fears that 40 to 45 people may still be trapped under the debris. In such a situation, relief work is going on continuously and rescue teams are trying to save the lives of people by racing against time.
