FASTag Rules Mumbai: FASTag is now going to be more important for motorists driving in Mumbai. Toll gatesThe focus is on increasing the use of FASTag to reduce the time taken to make payments and avoid long queues of vehicles. Important information about this was given by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation. From April 1, 2025, FASTag is being given preference at toll booths in Mumbai. Therefore, motorists traveling from or to Mumbai should check in advance whether their vehicle has FASTag attached and also whether there is sufficient amount in it.
If you reach the toll booth without FASTag, your pocket will be hit hard. Such vehicles may be charged double the toll compared to the regular toll. Interestingly, this additional toll can be paid through cash, card or UPI. FASTag Rules in Mumbai:
Which vehicles are eligible for discount?
FastagSome vehicles are exempted from this rule. They include school buses, light motor vehicles and State Transport Board buses. Vehicles entering Mumbai at major toll plazas such as Mulund West, Mulund East, Airoli, Dahisar and Vashi are eligible for concession under FASTag rules.
However, FASTag is being enforced more strictly on important routes such as the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, the old Mumbai-Pune Highway and the Mumbai-Nagpur Samriddhi Highway.
Where to get FASTag?
If you still don't have FASTag on your vehicle, getting one is not too difficult. Fastag can be availed through various banks as well as online platforms. One can apply for the same through Paytm, Amazon or the respective bank's website and app.
It is also easy to keep money in FASTag after taking it. The amount can be paid in FASTag with the help of digital payment apps like PhonePay, GooglePay, AmazonPay. So it is better to check the balance before starting the journey.
How can double toll be charged despite FASTag?
A FASTag is affixed to the vehicle which means that the toll will not be paid automatically every time. If FASTag is blacklisted due to some reason then problem may arise.
For example, if FASTag gets blacklisted due to lack of funds and you later pay into it, its information may not be updated immediately. Sometimes the new balance may take time to appear in the system.
In such a case, the fee cannot be deducted from the FASTag upon reaching the toll booth. As a result, the driver may have to pay double the toll. So it is always beneficial to check your FASTag balance and status once before embarking on a long journey. If there is any problem, it is better to solve it before reaching the toll booth. A little care can avoid both unnecessary expenses and toll hassles.
