Sarfaraz Khan was recalled to Team India for the upcoming two-Test series against Sri Lanka. After being ignored for a long time despite scoring runs in domestic cricket, he was finally rewarded for his consistency in domestic matches. However, with Sai Sudharsan failing to recover from his toe injury, the decision-makers finally ended the Mumbai-based batter’s exile. His father, Naushad, turned to poetry to celebrate the moment.
A video of Sarfaraz’s father reciting a shayari has gone viral on social media after the BCCI revealed Sarfaraz’s name, showing what the comeback means to family members of the young batter. Naushad highlighted the importance of hard work, leading to applause from his son.
“Suraj bhale nikala hai kai raato ke baad, lekin mehnat ko milta hai hamesha kismat ka sath (The sun may have come out after many nights, but destiny always favours hard work),” said Naushad.
Sarfaraz was waiting for another chance and had even worked on his fitness. When Sudharsan failed to recover from his fitness setback, the selectors quickly decided to name Sarfaraz in the team. The first Test is scheduled to be played from August 15 in Galle, and the batter is back in the Test set-up after two years.
In six Tests, he has scored 371 runs at an average of 37.10, with one century and three fifties. His best performance came in 2024, when he amassed 150 in the Bengaluru Test against New Zealand. India were dismissed for 46 in the first innings before Sarfaraz added important runs in the second innings.
However, his knock failed to save India from a crushing defeat in the match and the series. When Sarfaraz was not among the runs in the third and final game against the Kiwis, chances dried up before he was dropped from the squad.
However, it didn’t impact his confidence as the batter lost 17 kg to return to shape and scored 429 runs in seven matches at an average of 53.62 during the Ranji Trophy 2025-26.
