Fazalhaq Farooqi Returns to Afghanistan Squad for Ireland ODIs

The left-arm fast bowler Fazalhaq Farooqi has been named in the Afghanistan squad for the upcoming five-match ODI series against Ireland.

Several players like Yamin Ahmadzai and Saleel Safi have been included in the squad. Meanwhile, off-spin bowling all-rounder Mohammad Nabi has been missed from the 15-member squad for the upcoming series.

Fareed Malik and Bilal Sami are the other players who were left out of the Afghanistan squad which toured India last month.

This will be the first series for the side since Hashmatullah Shahidi stepped down and Rahmat Shah took over the leadership role. Meanwhile, Rahmanullah Gurbaz will serve as his deputy.

The change in captaincy completes Afghanistan’s leadership transition across formats since the new head coach Richard Pybus, who came into the leadership role after the T20 World Cup earlier this year.

Rahmat Shah is Afghanistan’s leading run-getter in Tests and ODIs. Rahmat Shah has played in 12 tests and 128 ODIs since his debut in 2018. He is Afghanistan’s leading run scorer in ODIs with 4121 at an average of 35.22.

The rest of the squad features star-studded players like Rashid Khan, Ibrahim Zadran, Azmatullah Omarzai and AM Ghazanfar.

The five-match series is set to begin on August 05 at Bready, while the second ODI will be played on August 07 at the same venue.

The third, fourth and fifth ODI will be played on August 10, 12, and 15 will be played at Stormont, Belfast.
