Federal Chancellor Christian Stocker, who visited India, along with his wife paid tribute to Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat.

New Delhi. Australian Federal Chancellor Christian Stocker and his wife Gerda Stocker Lagenstein laid wreath at Rajghat and paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi. Rajghat is an open memorial dedicated to Mahatma Gandhi and marks the place where he was cremated on January 31, 1948. Earlier, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met Chancellor Stocker during his first official visit to India on Wednesday. The meeting marks a step forward in bilateral relations, with further high-level discussions planned.

In a post on Twitter, External Affairs Minister Jaishankar said it was a great pleasure to meet Dr. Christian Stocker, Federal Chancellor of Austria, as he begins his first official visit to India. He said that I am confident that his discussions with Prime Minister Narendra Modi tomorrow will open new avenues for greater cooperation in various fields. Welcoming him, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that the Federal Chancellor of Austria, Dr. Christian Stocker is warmly welcomed on his first official visit to India. He said that this visit will provide further impetus to the enhanced India-Austria partnership. This is Stoker’s first visit to India and his first official visit to Asia after assuming office in 2025. During his stay in New Delhi, he is expected to hold wide-ranging talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, focusing on cooperation in key sectors, green technology and trade. Stocker is also accompanied by a delegation of business leaders, senior ministers and government officials. Both sides are expected to explore collaboration in the fields of digital innovation, renewable energy and advanced manufacturing. The visit is taking place amid growing economic ties between India and Austria. The two sides are also expected to discuss regional and global issues, as well as their cooperation in international organizations.
