New Delhi. The body of a 30-year-old female officer posted in the Defense Ministry has been found in suspicious circumstances in her flat in Dwarka area of the country's capital Delhi. The deceased has been identified as Nazia Khanum, who was working as Assistant Section Officer (ASO) in the ministry. According to the information received from the police, only seven months had passed since Nazia's marriage. Besides, she was also three months pregnant.

Allegation of harassment by in-laws
As soon as information about this tragic incident was received, the police and the deceased's maternal family reached the spot. Nazia's family members have made serious allegations against her husband Azam Ali Khan and her in-laws. Family members say that the deceased was married on 11 April 2026. After marriage, Nazia was being harassed mentally and physically due to dowry and other reasons. The father of the deceased told that Nazia often told about the ill-treatment she faced on phone.

On the other hand, during interrogation, the deceased's husband told the police that before the incident, there was an argument between them on some subject. According to the husband, the officer had gone to another room after the dispute, after which this tragic incident happened.

Police registered FIR, investigation continues
Based on the complaint of the family members, Delhi Police has registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Justice Code (BNS), including Section 85 i.e. cruelty and Section 108 i.e. incitement. As per the law, proceedings are initiated under the supervision of Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) in case of suspicious death within seven years of marriage. At present, considering the sensitivity of this matter, a detailed investigation is being conducted. Police and officials say that the actual cause of death can be confirmed only on the basis of post-mortem report and forensic evidence, after which further legal action will be taken.
