FIFA’s big decision: American striker Folarin Balogun’s red card suspension canceled after President Donald Trump’s intervention
A very shocking and historic development has come to light during the knockout matches of the FIFA World Cup 2026. Following the direct intervention of US President Donald Trump, football’s global governing body FIFA has revoked the suspension of the red card imposed on USA star striker Folarin Balogun with immediate effect. After this unexpected decision of FIFA, Balogun will now be available for selection in the very important match of the Round of 16 against Belgium. Belgium got angry when Trump praised FIFA. The whole controversy started during the Round of 32 match against Bosnia and Herzegovina, when Balogun was sent off the field with a straight red card for a foul on Tarik Muharemovic. After the suspension was lifted, US President Donald Trump praised FIFA on social media and wrote that thanks to FIFA for reversing a major injustice. On the other hand, this decision has caused great anger in the Belgian football camp and their coach Rudy Garcia has compared this move of FIFA to ‘April Fool’ and called it the most surprising decision in the history of football. FIFA defended its decision by citing rules. After being surrounded from all sides, FIFA has issued an official statement defending its decision. FIFA cited Article 27 of its disciplinary code and said the enforcement of the match suspension has been postponed for a probation period of one year. The RBFA (Royal Belgian Football Association) has expressed strong objection to this and has said that it will exhaust all legal options and appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to maintain fairness in the game.
