Film Shooting Techniques: Bloody scenes in Dhurandhar were shot like this, real effect created with condom and trigger
Film Shooting Techniques: In films, when bullets are fired on the big screen and blood is seen coming out of the actors’ bodies, it all seems very real to the audience. But a very interesting and technical process works behind this. Recently, the action director of the film Dhurandhar, Ejaz Gulab has revealed this secret, knowing which everyone was surprised. Ejaz Gulab told that the shooting scenes in films are not filmed in any ordinary way, but through a special technique, which is called ‘Bullet Hit Effect’. In this technique, a small setup is placed under the actor’s clothes. When a bullet is fired at the scene, this setup is activated through remote control or electronic trigger. After this there is a slight explosion, due to which it seems as if the bullet has actually hit the body and blood is coming out.
Unique and safe use of condom
To make this effect more real, a unique method is adopted – the use of condoms. In this, red colored fake blood is filled inside the condom. The material of the condom is very thin and flexible, so that when the small squib at the back explodes, it explodes without any solid pieces and the blood splatters look very real. This is the reason why this technology has been popular in the film industry for a long time, because along with being cheap, it is also considered safe.
Arrangements in several layers for security
As exciting as shooting an action scene looks, it can also be equally risky. Therefore, special arrangements are made for the safety of the artists. A metal plate or special padding is placed under the actor’s clothes, so that the effect of the explosion does not reach the body. Apart from this, the timing of the electronic trigger is kept very precise, because a mistake of even one second can affect both the scene and safety.
Risk for stuntman
On this subject, famous stuntman Gurbachan Singh had also told earlier that only small scale firecrackers are used in these scenes, due to which the risk of serious injury is less. Although minor scratches or injuries may occur, it is considered part of the stunt. He also said that if any accident happens, the producers and stuntmen’s association together bear the expenses of the treatment.
