Finnish resort hides $23,000 gold bar to attract summer tourists with treasure hunt

The initiative, organized by the Levi tourist office, will run through late August, or until a participant successfully locates the gold bar, British newspaper The Independent reported.

Participants will follow a series of clues across Levi, with each clue bringing them closer to the hidden gold bar.

The route will guide them through local trails, services, and landmarks, according to the organizers.

The final clue is set to be revealed on Aug. 22.

Situated above the Arctic Circle, Levi is best known as one of Finland’s leading ski destinations and a popular winter tourism hotspot, CNN reported.

During summer, the region experiences the midnight sun phenomenon, with continuous daylight for extended periods across Lapland.

Levi ski resort is among several European winter destinations that have diversified into year-round tourism, offering snow-free activities such as paragliding, hiking, river rafting and mountain biking.

Organizers said participants must move responsibly, stay within permitted areas and respect the natural environment.

They also stressed that no digging or ground disturbance is required during the hunt.
