  • 'Filing of FIR is first step towards justice': Rahul Gandhi

Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi staged a sit-in protest for eight hours at Sansad Marg police station in Delhi in support of student Sahil Lochab, who was injured due to the use of pellet guns. Demanding filing of an FIR in the case, Rahul Gandhi questioned the role of the police. Finally, after his agitation, Sahil Lochab's FIR was filed.

After the FIR was lodged, Rahul Gandhi welcomed the move and said it was the first step towards justice. He claimed that Sahil's body still had several bullets. Rahul Gandhi said that there were three bullets in his eyes and some near his heart.

According to Rahul Gandhi, he came to the police station around 11:30 in the morning. An FIR was lodged after about eight hours. He said it was serious that it took so long for a citizen to get justice at the central police station in the national capital.

Rahul Gandhi also alleged that the filing of FIR is being obstructed from the senior level in this case. The local police wanted to lodge an FIR, but they claimed that the decision was being delayed by the higher-ups. He also said that final approval is required at the level of Union Home Ministry in this case.

Meanwhile, after filing the FIR, Sahil Lochab also interacted with the media. He said that Rahul Gandhi has been in touch with him since last one month. When Rahul Gandhi called to inquire about his health, we informed him that the FIR was not filed. Sahil said that Rahul Gandhi then met and promised to help in filing the FIR.

According to Sahil, he was injured in the firing of a pellet gun during a student march towards Parliament on July 20. We have been trying to lodge an FIR since August 14, but were unsuccessful, he added.

With the filing of the FIR, the way for the investigation of the case has now been cleared, whether the responsibility for the use of pellet guns is fixed and what is the next action against the culprits.
