Firing over land dispute in Tarn Taran, three injured
Two brothers and their mother were injured in firing over a land dispute in Saidon village of Tarn Taran district of Punjab. The police have arrested the main accused woman, while the other accused are absconding.
Tarn Taran: An old land dispute in Saidon village took a violent turn on Sunday, when a family was allegedly fired upon and attacked. Two brothers and their mother were injured in the incident. The police have arrested a female accused in the case and started investigation.
Old land dispute took a violent turn
A tense situation arose on Sunday over a land dispute in Saidon village of Sadar Patti police station area in Tarn Taran district of Punjab. The dispute turned violent when a family was allegedly fired upon and assaulted. Rajbir Singh, his brother Ranjit Singh and mother Kulwinder Kaur were injured in the incident.
The injured were immediately admitted to the hospital, where their treatment is ongoing. After the incident, an atmosphere of tension was created in the village and the police reached the spot and took control of the situation. Police have arrested the main accused woman Jaswinder Kaur, while five other accused are said to be absconding.
The accused came outside the house and opened fire
According to Rajbir Singh, the dispute was going on regarding two kanals of his land. He alleged that Sarup Singh and his family, associated with Shariq, were laying claim to the land. In this regard, documents were shown several times to the villagers, but the dispute did not end.
Rajbir Singh told that he was present at his home on Sunday morning. Meanwhile, Sarup Singh reached there with his wife Jaswinder Kaur and other family members. It is alleged that Jaswinder Kaur instigated the attack by threatening the family.
After this the accused started firing with 12 bore and .315 bore rifles. Rajbir Singh and his brother Ranjit Singh were injured by the bullet. When his mother Kulwinder Kaur came forward to intervene, the accused beat her up too. It is alleged that one of the accused attacked him with the butt of a rifle and made him fall to the ground.
Police started investigation, search for remaining accused continues
After the incident, people nearby raised an alarm, after which the accused fled from the spot in a car and bike. As soon as the information was received, Sadar Patti police station reached the spot and the injured were taken to the hospital.
Police station in-charge Inspector Gurcharan Singh said that based on the statement of Rajbir Singh, a case has been registered against all the accused. Police have arrested the main accused Jaswinder Kaur, while raids are being conducted to search for the remaining accused.
The police is investigating the case from every aspect. Officials say that there has been tension between the two sides in the past due to land dispute. At present, police surveillance has been increased in the village so that any other untoward incident can be prevented.
