Flood situation severe in Bihar; Increase in water level of many rivers, orange alert issued at 28 places

New Delhi : For the past few days, there has been a drastic change in the climate in many states of the country. The flood situation in Bihar is getting serious. Gandak river water reached new parts of Saran district on Friday. At some places, after the dams burst, the water spread to new areas. The Central Water Commission (CWC) has issued an 'Orange' bulletin, indicating a severe flood situation at 28 places in several districts. Water levels in other rivers are also rising.

According to the meteorological department's bulletin, river Ganga is flowing above the danger level at many places. These include Danapur, Gandhi Ghat, Hathidah, Digha Ghat, Banka Ghat, Mahnar, Kalyanpur, Kahalgaon and Sultanganj. The water level of river Ganga in Danapur was 51.44 m, which was 0.24 m above the danger level. The water level at Gandhi Ghat in Patna was recorded at 49.69 m, which was 1.09 m above the danger level.

In Saran district, floodwaters crossed damaged embankments in Panapur and Maker blocks and reached new areas. These include Karchaulia, Amanour, Jagdishpur, Maker and Parsa. River Gandak was flowing above the danger level at Dumariaghat, Lalganj and Rewa Ghat. However, the water level was decreasing in all these three places.

The water level of Kosi is decreasing

At Lalganj the water level of the river was only 0.15 meters below its previous highest flood level (HFL). The water level of river Kosi was rising at Kursela, while the water level of Kosi was falling at Baltara. The water level of Budhi Gandak in Khagaria and Baia river in Mohiuddin Nagar was also rising.

Many rivers are threatened

Officials said many rivers were flowing above danger levels due to heavy rains in Nepal and Uttar Pradesh. These include Gandak, Ganga, Kosi, Bagmati and Ghaghra rivers.
