Former Delhi Chief Secretary and senior IAS officer of 1975 batch Rakesh Mehta reportedly committed suicide. The body of 75-year-old Mehta was found hanging in his flat in Kendra Vihar-2 Society, Sector-82, Noida. Police have also recovered an alleged suicide note from the spot. According to initial information, mental stress and some physical ailments have been mentioned in it. However, the police is investigating all aspects.
The matter came to light after the wife returned from Dehradun.
According to the information, Rakesh Mehta's wife Sumanti Mehta is also a retired IAS officer. She had gone to Dehradun to meet her son. On Saturday she called her husband, but could not reach him despite several attempts. Fearing something untoward, she returned to Noida from Dehradun.
The flat was locked from inside, police broke the door
On reaching Noida, Sumanti Mehta noticed that the door of the flat was locked from inside. When the door did not open even after several attempts, the police was informed. The police reached the spot and entered inside by breaking the door, where the body of Rakesh Mehta was found. Police have sent the body for post-mortem. The authenticity of the suicide note and the things written in it are also being investigated.
Administrative career spanning more than three decades
Rakesh Mehta's administrative career spanned more than three decades. He handled many important responsibilities in Delhi Government and Municipal Corporation. In 2007 he assumed the post of Chief Secretary of Delhi, while retiring in November 2010. He also held important responsibilities at the administrative level during the Commonwealth Games 2010.

Mehta is also linked to changes in Delhi's public transport system. He is said to have played an important role in the plan to remove Blue Line buses and promote low-floor buses.
