Hollywood-based Indian actress Freida Pinto has expressed confidence in actor Indraneil Sengupta's performance in the upcoming Netflix series. Unaccustomed Earthcalling him her “TV husband” and predicting that he will leave viewers stunned.
Indraneil recently took to Instagram to share his first looks from the series, an adaptation of acclaimed author Jhumpa Lahiri's short story collection of the same name. The drama follows a closely connected Indian-American community as its members navigate love, desire, relationships and questions of belonging.
Sharing the images, Indraneil wrote: “Love. Loss. Belonging. Here's your first look at Unaccustomed Earth,” adding that the series will premiere on December 17 exclusively on Netflix.
Freida responded in the comments, writing: “Let it be known that my TV husband, Indraneil Sengupta is going to leave you all stunned. Dec 17th come soon.”
Indraneil replied by thanking his “supportive TV wife”, adding, “May your words come true.”
Set in the elite and insular Indian-American community of Cambridge, Massachusetts, Unaccustomed Earth explores the complexities of immigrant life through nuanced characters and interconnected relationships. The story centers on a star-crossed romance involving a devoted wife and her long-lost love, setting off a scandalous affair and creating new fault lines within the community.
Lahiri's Unaccustomed Earth is her second short-story collection after Interpreter of Maladies. Much of her writing examines the experiences of second- and third-generation Indian Americans and their negotiation of identities across cultures.
Freida rose to international prominence with her film debut in the 2008 drama Slumdog Millionaire. She later appeared in films including Miraal, Trishna, Desert Dancer, Rise of the Planet of the Apes, Immortals, You Will Meet a Tall Dark Stranger, Love Sonia, Hillbilly Elegy and Mr. Malcolm's List.
She has also appeared in the Showtime miniseries Guerrilla and had a recurring role in the series The Path.
Unaccustomed Earth is scheduled to premiere on December 17, 2026.
