From Aladdin to Vedas-Upanishads… Home Minister narrated a life-changing story in JPN Library
Tezzbuzz Desk – Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah on Saturday inaugurated the digital and state-of-the-art Loknayak Jaiprakash Narayan Public Library. On this occasion, he stressed on developing the habit of reading among the youth and said that the progress of any country is not determined only by agriculture, market or industry, but by the young generation sitting in its libraries and acquiring knowledge.
Addressing the program, Amit Shah said that the foundation of every activity for nation building and taking the country to new heights rests on knowledge and wisdom. He said that libraries are the best medium to develop knowledge and thinking.
‘Every youth must visit the library once’
Amit Shah appealed to the youth to join the library at least once in their life. He said that when the habit of reading develops, the ability to understand right and wrong starts developing automatically in a person.
While sharing his childhood experience, the Home Minister said that the small town where he spent his childhood had a rich library. Being associated with that library had a deep impact on his life.
He said that initially he read books like Aladdin and the Magic Lamp, Alibaba and the Forty Thieves and The Journeys of Sindbad and gradually his reading journey extended to the Vedas and Upanishads.
‘One should think before speaking’
Amit Shah said that libraries strengthen a person’s thoughts. Referring to a message, he said that one should think before speaking, because words do not come back.
He said that before thinking it is important to understand what to think and this sanskar comes only through reading and study. The library has made a huge contribution in his life.
Libraries opened in villages
The Home Minister also mentioned an experiment conducted in his parliamentary constituency. He told that libraries have been opened in almost every village of the area, where 3 to 4 thousand books are available.
All these libraries are connected to the main library, which has about 1.25 lakh books. Apart from this, four mobile library vans are also being run to deliver books to children.
He told that the children of the villages write the names of the books of their choice and send them and every Friday the books of their choice are made available to them.
Library will become the center of knowledge for youth
Amit Shah said that this library dedicated in the name of Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan will become a new center of knowledge, thinking and ideas of the youth.
He appealed to the Delhi government to connect all the libraries of the capital and plan to connect schools as well.
The Home Minister also urged the library staff to contact schools in the 10 assembly constituencies around Delhi and connect more and more youth with the library.
