Nearly three decades after the sensational killing of two police officers in Agra, the prime accused, Bhura, has been arrested in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh.
Investigators revealed that he had lived under a fake identity for 27 years, even managing to get himself declared legally dead to evade capture.
Bhura, wanted since 1999, initially hid in forests before relocating to Itarsi and later Bhopal. He worked as a labourer, construction worker, and truck driver, changed his name to Jameel, married, and had children—all while avoiding contact with his family to maintain the illusion of death.
Police said his cover was blown when a former associate casually mentioned to a relative that he had spoken to Bhura two years ago. The information reached Agra police, who used technical surveillance to track him down. Despite attempts to mislead authorities, Bhura eventually confessed his true identity during interrogation.
Officials described the arrest as a major breakthrough in a decades‑old case that had haunted the force. Bhura’s ability to manipulate records and live under disguise highlights the challenges of tracking long‑term fugitives.
