G7 Summit 2026: Important meeting of Modi-Trump in G7 summit, many issues were discussed from trade agreement to energy security.

The two leaders, who came face to face after about 16 months, expressed their commitment to give new momentum to India-US relations and work together on global challenges. Many important topics including trade, energy security, situation in West Asia, defense cooperation, visa policy and global economic issues were discussed in the meeting.

Talks on trade agreement move forward

During the meeting, both the leaders reviewed the ongoing negotiations regarding India-US bilateral trade deal. According to sources, positive discussions were held on issues like tariffs, market access, supply chain and interim trade arrangements. The US indicated that progress is being made towards finalizing a trade agreement between the two countries. This agreement can further strengthen the business relations between the two countries.

Brainstorming on energy security and global oil market

Modi and Trump also discussed in detail issues related to global energy security. Concerns were raised about the impact on international oil supplies due to rising tensions in West Asia and potential disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz. India stressed the importance of energy supplies remaining secure and stable.

Shared concern on the situation in West Asia

The current situation in Iran and West Asia also remained at the center of discussion in the meeting. The two leaders agreed on the need to ensure regional stability, maritime security and security of international trade routes. India advocated reducing regional tensions through peaceful resolution and dialogue.

H-1B visa and the issue of Indian professionals

The H-1B visa program for Indian professionals was also discussed. India raised issues related to Indians contributing to the US technology sector. Both countries also discussed possibilities of enhancing cooperation in the field of talent, skills and innovation.

Collaboration on defence, AI and global challenges

Topics related to defense cooperation, artificial intelligence (AI), supply of critical minerals, global supply chains, Ukraine conflict and international security were also discussed in the meeting. Keeping in mind the concerns of the countries of the Global South, Prime Minister Modi expressed the need to promote inclusive development, sustainable economic progress and skill development partnerships.

India-US relations get new strength

Experts believe that this meeting held during the G7 Summit is an important step towards further strengthening the strategic partnership between India and America. In the changing global scenario, cooperation between the two countries is expected to increase in areas like trade, technology, defense and energy.
