Zubair Baloch, brother of notorious Pakistani gangster Uzair Baloch, was shot dead by unknown assailants outside his home on Thursday evening. Zubair was seriously injured in the attack, while two other people nearby were also injured.
Who is Uzair Baloch?
Uzair Baloch is considered one of Pakistan’s most notorious gangsters. He once headed the People’s Aman Committee and is accused of murder, extortion, attacks on police, possession of explosives, and several other serious crimes. In March 2026, Pakistan’s Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) rejected his bail plea in seven murder and terrorism-related cases. Earlier in 2020, a court convicted him of espionage and sentenced him to 12 years in prison.
Bullets fired outside the house
According to Pakistani media reports, the incident occurred in Karachi’s Lyari area when Zubair Baloch was outside his home. Masked assailants on a motorcycle arrived and opened fire. He was shot in the chest and abdomen, and was immediately rushed to Karachi’s Civil Hospital. The owner of a nearby shop reportedly returned fire, but the attackers managed to escape.
Police engaged in investigation from many angles
Karachi police have cordoned off the scene and launched an investigation. Initially, the police are investigating the case from several angles, including gang warfare, past rivalries, and other criminal motives. Zubair Baloch also has a criminal record. He was arrested in 2012 and released in January 2025. Security agencies have been monitoring his activities since his release.
Locals worried about the return of gang wars
According to a report in Dawn, a social activist in Lyari, Karachi, said that Zubair Baloch had joined a political party a few months ago and had even planted its flags in the area.
