Tezzbuzz Desk- Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, has leveled serious allegations against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah, attacking the central government on the issue of student protesters. Rahul Gandhi said that the government is trying to suppress the voices of youth by filing FIRs, suspending social media accounts, and using police action. He claimed that the country’s new generation, Gen Z, cannot be silenced through intimidation.
Rahul Gandhi posted on the social media platform X, writing, “PM Modi and Amit Shah, you can’t silence Gen Z by intimidation. First their bones were broken, and now FIRs are being filed against them, and their social media accounts are being shut down. You are India’s past, so be careful how you treat the country’s future.”
The Congress leader questioned the police action during the student protest at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on July 20th and demanded an impartial investigation. He said the entire matter should be investigated by an independent, high-level committee under the supervision of the Supreme Court to uncover the truth of the incident.
Rahul Gandhi said that the protesting students deserve justice and that an impartial investigation into the alleged brutality against them is essential. He said that in a democracy, every citizen has the right to express their views, and if force was used against students, accountability must be established.
Rahul Gandhi also shared a video to support his allegations. The video shows clashes between police and protesters. In the clip, some policemen are seen lathi-charging protesters. In another scene, a man in plain clothes is seen pushing a student protester, holding the Indian tricolor, onto the road. Citing this video, Rahul Gandhi questioned the police action.
The opposition has cornered the government on this issue, both inside and outside Parliament. On Thursday, several MPs from the “INDIA” coalition gathered at the Makar Dwar in the Parliament complex and protested. Holding placards, the MPs questioned who had ordered the police to use force against student protesters at Jantar Mantar on July 20th.
Opposition MPs demanded answers from the central government on the entire incident and alleged that the use of force against students was against democratic values. During the protest, MPs also raised slogans and demanded that the government hold them accountable for the actions taken. They also demanded accountability from the government on the issue of alleged financial irregularities in donations received for the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple in Ayodhya.
Since the student protests at Jantar Mantar in Delhi on July 20th, this issue has been a subject of constant political debate. While the opposition is criticizing the government for police action, the government and police maintain that necessary steps were taken to maintain law and order. Now, following Rahul Gandhi’s latest remarks, political rhetoric on this issue is likely to intensify.
