Gill-Akshar’s miracle in Edgbaston, England’s fort collapsed, India’s victory became special due to 5 big reasons

Birmingham. The Indian team not only took a 1-0 lead in the three-match series by defeating England by six wickets in the first ODI match played at Edgbaston, but also made many special records in its name. Captain Shubman Gill’s brilliant half-century and Axar Patel’s all-round performance gave India a memorable victory.

Chasing the target of 259 runs, India won the match by losing four wickets in 45.2 overs. Captain Gill scored 80 runs in 75 balls, which included 11 fours and one six. However, due to cramps and hamstring problems, he had to retire hurt and leave the field.

After this Akshar Patel and Washington Sundar took the responsibility. Both of them made an unbeaten 102-run partnership for the fifth wicket to lead India to an easy victory. Akshar scored an unbeaten 57 runs, while Sundar played an unbeaten inning of 52 runs.

    Earlier, after winning the toss and coming to bat, the England team made a good start and scored 61 runs without losing any wicket. But the Indian bowlers made a brilliant comeback and reduced England’s score to 107 runs by six wickets.

    After this, Joe Root (76*) and Liam Dawson (68) made a partnership of 121 runs for the seventh wicket, taking England to 258 runs. For India, Axar Patel took four wickets, while Prasidh Krishna and Gurnoor Brar took two wickets each.

    1. England’s defeat in Edgbaston after 11 years

    England’s ODI record at Edgbaston ground was very strong. After 2015, he had won eight consecutive ODI matches on this ground. India had earlier defeated England here in 2014 and now in 2026 once again stopped the winning campaign of the host team on the same ground.
