5 big reasons that made India’s victory special
1. England’s defeat in Edgbaston after 11 years
England’s ODI record at Edgbaston ground was very strong. After 2015, he had won eight consecutive ODI matches on this ground. India had earlier defeated England here in 2014 and now in 2026 once again stopped the winning campaign of the host team on the same ground.
2. Sixth consecutive ODI win against England
This is India’s sixth consecutive win against England in ODI cricket. This has become India’s longest winning streak against England at any time.
3. Edgbaston became Gill’s favorite ground
Shubman Gill once again showed his batting prowess at Edgbaston. Gill, who scored 269 and 161 runs in the Test match on the same ground last year, now scored 80 runs in the captaincy innings in the ODI and proved that this ground is very special for him.

4. Excellent all-round performance by Akshar Patel
Axar Patel, who faced criticism in the T20 series, made a brilliant comeback in ODIs. He first took four wickets with the ball and then played an important role in the team’s victory by scoring unbeaten 57 runs under pressure.
5. India’s first win on UK tour
India got its first win of this tour after disappointing performance in T20 matches against England and Ireland. This victory of Edgbaston has proved to be a confidence boost for the team.
Gill’s captaincy, Axar’s all-round performance and the comeback of the bowlers led India to a victory at Edgbaston that will be remembered for a long time.
