Godzilla Minus Zero is seriously raising expectations at the global box office. The sequel to Godzilla Minus Onefilmmaker Takashi Yamazaki’s breakout global blockbuster, this installment is now expected to nearly triple the first movie’s opening box office gross.

According to the latest reports from VarietyGodzilla Minus Zero is tracking toward a projected $30 million opening weekend across 3,254 North American theaters. It follows even more spectacularly in the footsteps of 2023’s Godzilla Minus One, which made a sweet $11.4 million domestically to kick-start its run in the U.S.

Godzilla’s box office rampage could leave its competition in the dust

Godzilla Minus Zero’s box office forecasting is already hinting that this sequel to the 2023 masterpiece could have its competition biting the dust.

With such strong numbers expected from its opening weekend, the movie could easily tower over fellow newcomers like The Cat in the Hatwhich is targeting second place with $20 million to $25 million from 4,000 domestic venues, followed by Wild Horse Ninewhich is aiming for $5 million to $7 million from just 1,000 screens.

Adding to this list is one more newcomer, Ramayana: Rise of a Legend. The Indian epic is projected to earn $6 million during its first four days in theaters, with Sony distributing it in 1,300 theaters.

But while this Godzilla sequel could very likely outclass its competing films at the box office, those are only the expected numbers. As of this writing, it remains to be seen just how spectacularly Godzilla Minus Zero steals the limelight from its competitors.

Directed by Yamazaki, Minus Zero takes place two years after the previous installment as Godzilla regenerates and resurfaces to combat a new monster that’s tormenting postwar Japan: King Ghidorah.

You can catch Godzilla Minus Zero in theaters starting November 6, 2026.
