Friday was a remarkable day for India on the ninth day of the 2026 Commonwealth Games. India won its first two gold medals in judo, with Neeraj Chopra claiming silver and Yashvir Singh claiming bronze in javelin. Asmita Dey and Harsh Singh made history in judo. 23-year-old Asmita Dey from Tripura won the gold medal in the under-48 kg category, defeating a Canadian in a golden score bout. She became the first Indian woman to win a gold medal in judo at the Commonwealth Games.
Harsh Singh defeated veteran Australian Joshua Katz in the men’s 60 kg final to win the gold medal. He became the first Indian male athlete to win gold in the event. Yamini Maurya won the silver medal by reaching the final in the 57 kg category.

In athletics, Neeraj Chopra won the silver medal with a throw of 85.83 meters in his second attempt. Debutant Yashvir Singh won the bronze medal with a throw of 85.41 meters in his final attempt. Rumesh Tharanga of Sri Lanka won the gold medal with a throw of 89.75 meters.

Tejaswin Shankar overcame a knee injury to win the bronze medal in the decathlon with a score of 7976. He became the first Indian to win a medal in the decathlon at the Commonwealth Games. India’s dominance in boxing continued.
