Mumbai: Kolhapur An MoU was signed between the District Cricket Association, Kolhapur and the Sports Department in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Minister and Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Sunetra Ajit Pawar in the ministry to build an international standard cricket stadium here. Due to this MoU, future playersNor will world class facilities be available.

The concept of world-class facilities will be developed as a multi-sports hub, not just limited to cricket. State-of-the-art facilities will be created here for boxing, judo, archery, wrestling, swimming, table tennis, fencing etc. Also, a cricket museum will be set up and new employment opportunities will also be available to the locals.

12.76 hectares (31.90 acres) of government land at Mauje Vikaswadi in Karveer taluka was transferred to Kolhapur District Cricket Association (KDCA) under MoU for construction of international cricket stadium and related sports infrastructure. Kolhapur District Cricket Association President Chhatrapati Sambhajiraje and Kolhapur Deputy Director of Sports and Youth Services Suhas Patil signed the lease transfer agreement.

An international standard stadium with a capacity of around 35,000 spectators will be constructed as per BCCI and ICC norms. In this project, a modern pavilion, practice grounds, indoor training center, sports science center, club house, floodlight system, cricket museum, parking lot for players and officials as well as general public, internal roads, drainage system, solar power plant and state-of-the-art security system will also be constructed.

This project will strengthen the government’s resolve to build world-class sports facilities in the state and give a new direction to Kolhapur’s rich sports tradition. Apart from promoting cricket in the district, this stadium will provide modern training facilities to talented players in rural areas. It was also informed that the local economy will also get a big boost by encouraging sports tourism through this project.
