A very welcome and significant news has arrived for the people of Delhi. The government has prepared a comprehensive and concrete plan to completely improve the power system in the national capital and provide uninterrupted power to the people 24 hours a day. Delhi Power Minister Ashish Sood held an important meeting with all the senior officials of the power department on Thursday. During this high-level meeting, the issues of undergrounding the power cables that stretch like spiderwebs in historic areas like Chandni Chowk, developing battery energy storage systems for 24-hour uninterrupted power supply in Delhi, and the progress of the existing solar policy were closely reviewed.
Highest Emphasis on Transparency in Power Companies
During the meeting, Power Minister Ashish Sood specifically emphasized that transparency and consumer service standards must be ensured at all costs in power distribution companies. He stated that this requires systematic implementation of performance criteria and a strict audit system to ensure that the general public does not face any difficulties.
Power Supply System to be Strengthened
The Minister further stated that Delhi’s power demand is experiencing a significant increase each year. This makes it crucial to further improve and modernize the city’s entire supply system. He expressed concern that despite improved power infrastructure in many areas, minor problems such as power outages still occur, resulting in power supply disruptions.
Battery Energy Storage Systems Will Change the Picture
To ensure uninterrupted power supply, the government has now launched a unique initiative to develop large-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS). Work is already underway, and a battery energy storage system with a total capacity of 20 MW has been installed at a site in Kilokri. This specialized battery energy storage system power substation can provide uninterrupted power supply to approximately 100,000 consumers simultaneously for a full four hours. With this step of the government, there is every hope that the people of Delhi will get great relief from the problem of power cuts in the coming days.
