Booking of seeds for Rabi sowing has started in Gorakhpur district. Against the target set by the department, farmers have applied for seeds of many crops including wheat and gram. The objective of the scheme is to provide quality seeds to the farmers at low prices, so that their cost at the time of sowing can be reduced.
Seeds of some crops will also be available free of cost
Apart from the grant, the Agriculture Department is also providing seeds of some crops free of cost to the eligible farmers. Under this, applications have been received for rapeseed, gram and pea and seeds have been distributed to the selected farmers through lottery. The process of application for some packets of lentils and mustard is going on. Where applications exceed the target, beneficiaries will be selected through lottery.
