The stir regarding employees in the world’s leading tech companies has once again intensified. Google has extended the Voluntary Exit Program for its employees in many countries. Under this, some employees are being given a financial package in exchange for leaving the company. According to the report released on November 4, 2026, Google has expanded this scheme in five countries. This step of the company has come at a time when its expenditure on Artificial Intelligence (AI) is continuously increasing.
Employees got offers in these five countries
According to a Reuters report, Google started offering voluntary exit packages to some employees in Canada, France, Germany, Japan and Switzerland in June 2026. Confirming this program, the company said that in some teams, the option to leave the job with financial compensation was being given from 2025 itself. Now it has been extended to some other countries.
However, Google has not told how many employees have accepted this offer. According to the report, this scheme is not for all employees, but has been implemented on select departments and teams.
How much money will you get if you leave your job?
Under this scheme, instead of leaving the job, employees are being given a financial package according to their service period. According to information revealed in Switzerland, there was a proposal to give one month’s salary to the employees for every year they worked in the company.
However, the maximum limit of this payment was kept at 12 months’ salary. This means that even long-serving employees could get a package equal to a maximum of one year’s salary. Google has about 5,000 employees in Switzerland. According to the report, at least four people out of about 50 employees of a team there had accepted the offer. Employees also started leaving the company from August.
Why was this step taken amidst increasing expenditure on AI?
Google’s parent company Alphabet is investing heavily in artificial intelligence and cloud computing. In such a situation, the company wants to direct its resources towards those departments which are considered more important for the future. According to the report, employees of Google Cloud and AI research unit DeepMind were excluded from such offers earlier.
The same pattern is visible in the new program also. Earlier in America and Britain also, employees of some departments were given the option to leave the job voluntarily. At present there is no confirmation of the implementation of this new program in India.
