According to the news of Indian Express, there is a lot of opposition to the decision to increase the use of ethanol in petrol from 10 percent to 20 percent in just three years. In view of this, the government may postpone its proposal to switch to E25 petrol with a higher blend of ethanol fuel.

BIS notification

No formal date has been set for the supply of E25 blended petrol, but two decisions of the government in the last six weeks have raised new concerns. First, BIS (Bureau of Indian Standards) sets standards for E22, E25, E27 and E30 fuel and second, the government announces exemption in Central Excise Duty. This clearly indicates that the government wants to prepare vehicles and fuel-related systems for the next phase of ethanol use.

Currently, E20 fuel is available due to which customers are complaining that the fuel economy of the vehicle has clearly reduced. Especially those vehicles which are running on the roads before the year 2023. The vehicles coming from 2023 are designed according to E20 fuel. Owners of old vehicles have also expressed concern about damage to vehicle parts due to E20 fuel.

Why hold on to E25?

According to the news of Indian Express, in a high level meeting held in the government last week, the need to solve some legitimate concerns scientifically was emphasized. It also asked for orders to be given to Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to resolve customer complaints. According to sources, the government believes that it is important to give adequate time to the ecosystem to prepare. Therefore, a hasty switch to E25 fuel should be avoided, especially since the switch to E20 was rushed in the first place.

The view within the government is that the transition to E20 should be done in a phased manner. We have also received the same signal from vehicle manufacturing companies. If further fuel from E20 comes, then for now he can stop his journey and go on a break.
