These days, lakhs of central government employees and pensioners are eagerly waiting for the increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) for July 2026. Although, half of the month of July has passed, no official announcement has been made yet by the government regarding the new rates.
Due to this situation, the question is arising in the minds of about 50 lakh central employees and more than 65 lakh pensioners of the country that when will they get the benefit of increased DA and how much of a jump will this bring in their salaries. Why has DA not been officially announced yet?
The entire decision on increase in dearness allowance is taken on the basis of official data of All India Consumer Price Index for Industrial Workers (AICPI-IW). The government cannot determine the new DA rates until the final figures for the month of June are fully released. Since the June data is yet to come, the final decision on this is currently pending.
How much can your dearness allowance increase this time?
If the AICPI-IW figures revealed so far are taken as the basis, then financial experts estimate that this time there may be a significant increase of 3% to 4% in the dearness allowance of the employees. However, this is just a probable figure. The real and final percentage will be revealed only after the approval of the Central Government and official calculations. If this estimate proves to be true, then there is sure to be a significant increase in the monthly salary of employees and the pension of pensioners.
If the announcement is not made in July, then when will the gift be received?
If we look at the trends and experiences of the last few years, the central government often makes the official announcement of DA to be implemented from the month of July directly around October or November. In such a situation, there is every possibility that this time too, just before the festive season, the government can give a great gift of increasing DA to the employees and pensioners. The good thing is that even though the announcement will be made later, as usual, the increased DA will be considered effective from July 1, 2026 and as per the government rules, the employees can also get the arrears of the previous months.
