Great recruitment in the army due to fear of the world! Canada is making its biggest preparations in 30 years, is fear of Trump the reason?

Ottawa: Canada, a peaceful and beautiful country of North America, seems to be very serious about the security of its borders these days. Canada has launched the biggest recruitment drive in the last 30 years to strengthen its military. The announcement issued by the Canadian military in late April has caught the attention of the entire world. According to statistics, in the last one year, Canada has added more than 7,310 new members to its army, which is the largest number of people joining the army in the last three decades.

Many reasons are being given behind this ‘great preparation’ of Canada. The feeling of insecurity in western countries has increased since the increasing global tension and Russia-Ukraine war. At the same time, a section of experts also believe that Donald Trump’s return to America and his statements have forced Canada to rethink its defense policy.

Opened the treasury to woo the army

The Canadian government has put in all its efforts to make its army not only bigger but also modern. The Defense Ministry has made a historic increase in the salary of soldiers so that more and more youth are attracted towards it. Along with the salary hike, the government has also made a big promise to purchase new and modern weapons and equipment. Apart from this, the existing military bases of the country are also being made high-tech so that any emergency can be dealt with.

Has the ‘Trump Factor’ increased Canada’s anxiety?

Canadian Defense Minister David McGuinty has described these record recruitment figures as ‘extremely positive’. Although Canadian officials avoided directly naming US President Donald Trump, opposition leaders say Trump’s statements and changing global politics have led the Liberal government to accelerate military recruitment. Trump’s recent statements and pressure on NATO countries to increase defense spending during his previous tenure have alerted neighboring countries like Canada.

Trying to get out of the ‘death spiral’

Until a few years ago, the Canadian Army was said to be in a ‘death spiral’, where the number of soldiers was continuously decreasing. But the figures for the year 2025-26 have changed this perception. This year, about 44,000 people applied to join the army, which is 62% more than last year. The government aims to increase the regular strength of the army to 71,500 by 2029.

Modern training and easy recruitment process

Canada has also relaxed its rules to speed up recruitment. Now the permanent residents there can also become part of the army. The recruitment process is being made digital so that applicants do not have to wait for months. Along with this, ‘recruiting allowance’ of up to $50,000 is also being given to new members joining the army. This step of Canada gives a clear message that it no longer wants to depend on anyone else for its sovereignty and security.
