A new sci-fi thriller has gone from a fresh Netflix arrival to the service’s biggest title in the U.S. The movie has grabbed a spot on Netflix’s daily Top 10 list, putting Greta Lee and Wagner Moura at the center of a sudden streaming surge despite a sharply divided critical response.
The Last House is topping Netflix’s streaming charts
According to FlixPatrol, The Last House currently sits at No. 1 among Netflix’s most-streamed movies, beating out titles such as Land of Saints and Sinners, 72 Hours, Minions, Chief of Station, and Black Adam, among others. That chart-topping run gives the sci-fi thriller an early win with audiences, even though critics have been far less impressed.
The story traps Ann and Jason, played by Lee and Moura, inside their own home with their children. The family cannot escape; their supplies continue disappearing, and an unexplained force keeps them confined. What should be the safest place in their lives becomes a pressure cooker where teamwork could mean the difference between survival and disaster.
Director Louis Leterrier, known for Now You See Me and Lupin, said the film deliberately turns an ordinary home into a dangerous environment. Moura told Netflix’s Tudum that the idea of waking up physically trapped inside a house immediately connected with him because he imagined how his own family might react. Lee also found a personal hook in the material.
Speaking with Tudum, she described Ann as an exceptionally resilient mother who draws extraordinary strength from protecting her family. Moura similarly portrayed Jason as the household’s stabilizing force, even while he struggles to figure out how to get everyone through the crisis.
The cast also includes Riley Chung, Emma Ho, Noah Alexander Sosnowski, and Gabriel Barbosa. Matthew Robinson wrote the screenplay, while Leterrier also produced the project alongside Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping, and Kori Adelson. Still, the movie has plenty of ground to make up with critics. The Last House currently has a 27% critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes, while its audience score is 29%.
