GST Collection: All records of GST collection broken, ₹2.42 lakh crore came to the government treasury

GST Collection Record: A new record has been made in GST collection in the country amid the ongoing tension in the Middle East and the ever increasing tension due to the closure of Hormuz. GST collection made a new record of ₹2.42 lakh crore in the month of April. According to government data, it has registered an increase of 8.7% compared to the same month of the last financial year. Earlier, the highest collection was ₹2.23 lakh crore in April 2025.

According to government data, India’s total GST collection in the month of April reached a record level and stood at around Rs 2.43 lakh crore. This is 8.7% more than the same month last year. This points to the strong momentum of the economy at the beginning of the new financial year.

Latest figures show that there has been a sharp increase in GST collection this time as compared to Rs 2.23 lakh crore in April 2025. It registered an increase of 8.7% on year-on-year basis. At the same time, net GST revenue stood at Rs 2.11 lakh crore, which is 7.3% more than a year ago. These figures of April are related to the recovery of the month of March. Meanwhile, tensions between Iran-Israel-America affected the global economy and crude oil prices increased. On April 30, Brent crude rose above $126 a barrel on fears of renewed conflict in the region.

Maharashtra, Karnataka and Gujarat contribute the most

The top five states in GST collection are Maharashtra (Rs 13,793 crore), Karnataka (Rs 5,829 crore), Gujarat (Rs 5,455 crore), Tamil Nadu (Rs 4,724 crore) and Uttar Pradesh (Rs 4,399 crore). For the entire financial year 2025-26, gross GST collection increased by 8.3 percent to Rs 22.27 lakh crore. In the last financial year (2025) it was Rs 20.55 lakh crore. Net GST collection stood at Rs 19.34 lakh crore which is 7.1% higher than FY 2024-25. This indicates strong economic activity despite global uncertainties.
