Out of 10,005 seats in these institutions, 707 seats have been elected unopposed, while 25,579 candidates are in the fray for the remaining 9,297 seats.

A three way fight between BJP, Congress and Aam Aadmi Party

These elections are witnessing a fierce fight between Bharatiya Janata Party, Congress and Aam Aadmi Party. All the parties are particularly focused on major cities like Ahmedabad, Surat, Vadodara and Rajkot. In many of these municipal corporations, mayors are going to be elected for the first time. BJP has taken a strong lead in unopposed seats. The BJP won 692 of the 707 uncontested seats, while the Congress and independent candidates had limited success. Aam Aadmi Party has not achieved significant success on this front.

The BJP has fielded the most, approximately 9,296 candidates. Around 8,443 Congress and 5,261 Aam Aadmi Party candidates are contesting the elections, while 2,527 independent candidates are also contesting the elections. The effect of increasing OBC reservation from 10 percent to 27 percent is also being seen in this election. According to political analysts, this election is not limited to local power but also hints at a big election fight in 2027.
