Gujarat Titans broke RCB’s pride, defeated them by 4 wickets in Ahmedabad.

In the 42nd match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, Gujarat Titans (GT) defeated Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 4 wickets. In this match played in Ahmedabad on Thursday (April 30), GT won the toss and decided to bowl first and bowled out RCB for 155 runs in 19.2 overs.

RCB drowned in overconfidence

RCB made an aggressive start after being invited to bat first. Virat Kohli hit 5 consecutive fours against Kagiso Rabada in the second over of the match. In the next over, he sent Mohammad Siraj for a six. Siraj made a comeback by taking the wicket of second opener Jacob Bethel (5). Kohli’s attitude was different but soon Rabada calmed him down. This South African fast bowler bowled Kohli (28) with a short ball.

After the fall of 2 wickets for 35 runs, Devdutt Padikkal and captain Rajat Patidar tried to handle the RCB innings by making a partnership of 44 runs for the third wicket but Patidar became the victim of a controversial decision of the umpire. Holder had dragged his hand on the ground after taking the catch of Arshad Khan’s ball. The umpire believed that the ball was touching the ground but Holder had completed the catch before that. Patidar’s wicket fell at 79 runs. After some time, Jitesh Sharma walked away after scoring 1 run.

After the score was 80/4, the remaining RCB batsmen needed to show wisdom but in an attempt to play a big shot, they kept returning to the pavilion after throwing their wickets. RCB fielded Venkatesh Iyer as an impact player but this move also failed. Venkatesh could score only 12 runs after playing 15 balls. Devdutt Padikkal scored the maximum 40 runs for RCB.

GT took revenge from RCB

The GT had an explosive start to chase the small target. Shubman Gill dealt fours and sixes from the very first over and took the team’s score to 42 runs in just 3 overs. Gill scored 26 runs in the second over against Hazlewood. Even after the early dismissal of opening partner Sai Sudarshan (6), Gill continued his batting and returned to the pavilion after scoring 43 runs in 18 balls. After this Jos Buttler took charge and scored 39 runs in 19 balls.

After Butler’s dismissal, GT lost the wickets of Shahrukh Khan (8) and Washington Sundar (12) in quick succession but Rahul Tewatia stood till the end and took them to the target 25 balls earlier. Tewatia scored unbeaten 27 runs in 17 balls. With this win, GT avenged the defeat suffered by RCB just a few days ago. For RCB, Bhuvneshwar Kumar took 3 wickets for 28 runs in 4 overs but he was left alone.
