Gujarat Titans defeated Rajasthan Royals by 77 runs, RCB-PBKS got a big blow
The 52nd match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 was played between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Gujarat Titans (GT). In this match held at Sawai Man Singh Stadium in Jaipur on Saturday (May 9), Gujarat Titans defeated Rajasthan Royals by 77 runs. When invited to bat first, GT scored 229 runs at the loss of 4 wickets. In response, RR was reduced to 152 runs in 16.3 overs.
With this big win, GT has jumped 3 places to second place in the points table. He has 14 points equal to the top Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). It is lagging behind SRH only on the basis of net run rate. With GT coming at number-2, Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have had to drop one place each, while RR is out of the top-4.

Record partnership between Sudarshan-Gill
After losing the toss and opting to bat first, GT got a strong start from captain Shubman Gill and Sai Sudarshan. Both made an opening partnership of 118 runs. This was the sixth century partnership between Gill-Sudarshan for the first wicket in IPL. He equaled the record of David Warner-Shikhar Dhawan and Abhishek Sharma-Travis Head in terms of making the most number of opening century partnerships.
Sudarshan scored 55 runs in 36 balls. Even after his departure, Gill remained steadfast and played an inning of 84 runs in 44 balls. In the last overs, Washington Sundar (37 not out in 20 balls) and Rahul Tewatia (14 not out in 4 balls) batted brilliantly to take GT to a big score.

RR faltered as soon as Vaibhav Suryavanshi was out
RR also made a stormy start in the run chase but its innings faltered as soon as explosive opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi was out. Vaibhav scored 36 runs in 16 balls. Mohammad Siraj put an end to his explosive work. After this, Kagiso Rabada took the wickets of Yashasvi Jaiswal (3) and Shimron Hetmyer (6). After the end of the powerplay, Rashid Khan ensured a big defeat for RR by taking 4 wickets. Jason Holder dealt with RR’s lower order. Holder took 3 wickets for 12 runs in 2.3 overs.
