A software engineer allegedly strangled his wife to death before dying by suicide at their flat in Gurugram, after sending an email to senior officials at his company requesting them to inform his father and landlord, officials said.
The incident took place on Thursday at M3M Marina, an upscale residential society in Sector 68 of Gurugram.
According to police, they received information at around 10:30 am on October 15 that a couple had been found dead in Flat 103, Tower 7 of the residential complex. Upon reaching the spot, police found the woman's body lying on the floor, while the man was found hanging from a ceiling fan hook.
“The dead couple has been identified as 28-year-old Farhana and 30-year-old Mohammad Aslam. Farhana was from Kerala, while Aslam was a native of Bengaluru. Aslam worked as a software engineer at an IT company in Gurugram Sector 58, while Farhana was a homemaker,” an official was quoted as saying in a media report.
According to the report, Aslam had emailed senior executives at his company, stating that he intended to end his life. He also shared the mobile numbers of his father and landlord and requested that they be informed.
After receiving the email, company officials contacted the landlord, following which the police were informed. However, the couple had died by the time the police reached the flat.
Investigators said the forensic team recovered a suicide note from the flat. Preliminary findings suggest that Aslam strangled Farhana before taking his own life, officials said.
The police said the motive behind the incident has not yet been established. Further investigation is underway.
In a separate incident reported earlier this month in Greater Noida West, a 36-year-old man died after allegedly falling from the 12th floor of a residential society. His family told the police that he had been struggling with depression, officials said.
The deceased was identified as Anil Kumar, son of Santosh Kumar and a resident of Ace Divino Society, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Bisrakh police station. During preliminary inquiries, his family reportedly told police that he had been experiencing depression for some time.
The incident came nearly a week after a young man died after jumping from the 43rd floor of Noida's Supernova building in Sector 94.
