The 32-year-old Hanuma Vihari questioned the BCCI over the long rope given to Abhishek Sharmabut not to Sanju Samson. After starting the England tour well, the left-handed batter has seen his form go down. The batter has managed just 40 runs from six games with a highest score of 16. In Zimbabwe, Abhishek amassed 11 runs from three games and was out for single-digit scores each time.

The former India batter highlighted that in the UK series, barring a few knocks, Abhishek did not have a sizeable score on the board, not even 20s or 30s. He accumulated just one half-century in the last eight innings, and three half-centuries in the last 18 matches, including the 2026 T20 World Cup.
Vihari questioned the inconsistencies in the team selection, with the CSK star having been dropped just after three batting failures during the UK tour. The 31-year-old batter wasn’t considered for selection during the Zimbabwe tour, with many board officials stating that he was rested rather than dropped.
Veteran batter slams selection inconsistency
Vihari is not pleased with the current selection process. “How many matches did Samson play in the World Cup? Three (Five). He scored fifties in all three. Abhishek’s highest score in the five matches was 16. Why is no one talking about it? When it comes to Samson, they say he is inconsistent. Fair enough. But he can win high-pressure matches on his day. Abhishek is a player with a lot of hype, but Samson is also equal. He has also performed in the IPL. Why different rules for different players?”
India’s next T20I fixture is against the West Indies, which begins in October this year. It will be interesting to see if the selectors decide to make any change at the top of the batting order, with Vaibhav Sooryavanshi starting to come good with the bat.
