Haryana Congress: District in-charge changed before Delhi rally

Haryana Congress has changed the responsibilities of district in-charges for the ‘Vote Bachao, Desh Bachao’ rally to be held on November 1 at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi. Instead of current MLAs, many former MLAs, former MPs and former ministers have been given the responsibility of increasing the participation of workers.

Chandigarh: Organizational preparations have intensified in Haryana before the Congress rally to be held in Delhi on November 1. While changing the responsibilities of the in-charges of various districts, the party has now handed over command to many former MLAs and former MPs. Earlier this work was given to the sitting MLAs. Under the new system, the district in-charge will look after the arrangements for taking the workers to the rally and bringing them back. The Congress leadership wants that more and more people from Haryana should reach Ramlila Maidan in Delhi.

Why was the district in-charge changed before the Delhi rally?

Congress has organized a big public meeting at Ramlila Maidan in New Delhi on November 1 under the ‘Save Vote, Save Country’ campaign. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and other leaders of the opposition alliance are planned to participate in this program.

For the preparations for the rally, Haryana Congress had earlier given the responsibility of different districts to the sitting MLAs. Now, by making changes in these, many former MLAs, former MPs and senior leaders have also been given the responsibility.

Earlier on October 22, Congress had made 22 leaders including MPs and MLAs as district in-charges. The objective of the new responsibilities has been said to be to take forward the preparations at the local level and ensure people’s participation in the rally.

These leaders got command from Gurugram to Sirsa

In the new arrangement, the responsibility of Gurugram district has been given to former state Congress President Dharampal Malik. Former state president Dr. Ashok Tanwar has been made in-charge in Faridabad. The command of Mahendragarh has been handed over to former Haryana Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Sharma.

Former MP Kailasho Devi has got the responsibility in Charkhi Dadri, former MP Shadilal Batra in Panipat and former minister Subhash Batra in Jhajjar. Former minister Anand Singh Dangi has been made in-charge in Sonipat and former minister Jaswant Singh Bawal has been made in-charge in Sirsa.

Apart from this, former minister Sukhbir Kataria in Palwal, former minister Bhimsen Mehta in Kurukshetra and former minister Rambhaj in Hisar have been given the responsibility of organizational preparations.

Former MLA Nishan Singh in Ambala, former MLA Prahlad Singh Gillakheda in Kaithal and former MLA Sukhwinder Singh Mandhi in Rewari have got the responsibility.

New in-charge in Panchkula, Rohtak and Karnal also

Haryana Congress has given responsibility to experienced leaders in other districts also. In Panchkula, former MLA Krishna Kamboj and in Jind, former MLA Santakumar have been made in-charge.

Former MLA Sukhbir Farmana in Rohtak, former MLA Shivshankar Bhardwaj in Fatehabad and former MLA Kulveer Beniwal in Bhiwani will oversee the preparations for the rally.

Former MLA Randhir Golan has been given the responsibility in Karnal, former MLA Lahari Singh in Yamunanagar and former MLA Bakshish Singh Virk in Nuh. Former MLA Padam Singh Dahiya has been made in-charge in Hansi.

These leaders have been given the responsibility to contact party workers in their areas and make arrangements for people going to Delhi.

KC Venugopal gave instructions in the meeting

A meeting was held at the Congress headquarters on October 23 regarding the preparations for the Delhi rally. In this, party general secretaries KC Venugopal and Priyanka Gandhi Vadra reviewed the preparations with the leaders of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh.

Many senior leaders including Haryana Congress in-charge Sanjay Dutt, state president Rao Narendra Singh and MP Deependra Singh Hooda attended the meeting.

The Congress leadership had asked MPs, MLAs, former MLAs and district heads to work to increase the participation of people from their areas. Along with this, transportation arrangements for the people coming to the rally were also discussed.

Caution will have to be taken regarding vehicles in Delhi also

In view of the possibility of a large number of people from Haryana reaching Delhi for the rally, importance is also being given to the transport system.

Party officials have been asked to arrange for such vehicles on which no restrictions are applicable under the Graded Response Action Plan i.e. GREP in Delhi.

The local leaders will have the responsibility of taking the workers participating in the rally from their areas to Delhi and returning them after the program.

Due to pollution control rules in Delhi, there may be restrictions on certain categories of vehicles. In such a situation, the party leadership has given instructions to keep in mind the applicable rules while making transport arrangements.

Congress’s demonstration on the issue of voter list

Congress has linked this rally to its ongoing campaign against Special Intensive Revision of Voter List or SIR.

The party alleges that names of eligible voters are being removed during revision of voter lists. Congress is also raising questions on the functioning of the Election Commission in this matter.

Haryana Congress in-charge Sanjay Dutt and state president Rao Narendra Singh have said that the demand for removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar from the post will be raised prominently in the rally on November 1.

However, Congress’s allegations of deliberate deletion of names from the voter list cannot be considered as independently established facts. Congress says its campaign is to protect the voting rights of every eligible citizen.

Emphasis on taking more people from Haryana to Delhi

Considering the proximity of Haryana to Delhi, the Congress leadership has given the responsibility of ensuring more participation in the rally to the state unit. District and block level workers of the party are being included in the preparations.

According to State Congress President Rao Narendra Singh, workers have been instructed to collect information about complaints related to voter lists and make people aware about voting rights.

Congress wants to raise its issues related to voter list at the national level through this rally. On the other hand, it is also clear from the change in district in-charges that the party is increasing the role of former public representatives in organizational preparations.

Now, an eye will be kept on how many workers from Haryana reach the rally to be held at Ramlila Maidan on November 1 and what further announcement the Congress leadership makes.
