news desk – Film actor Rajpal Yadav has received a strong rebuke from the Supreme Court in the check bounce case. The court has ordered him to deposit at least Rs 2 crore of the outstanding amount in the Supreme Court Registry. The court clearly said that this is the last chance for them.
A bench headed by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant heard the case on Tuesday. During this, the court raised questions on the previous attitude of Rajpal Yadav and said that it is difficult to trust him. The court also said that he is known for doing drama and acting in Bollywood and is doing the same in the court.
During the hearing, Rajpal Yadav's lawyer assured that the actor would deposit at least Rs 2 crore within two weeks. It was also said that security for the remaining amount would be given. Rajpal Yadav currently owes around Rs 5 crore from the complainant Murali Productions.
“Who can believe him?”
CJI Surya Kant said during the hearing, “After the kind of attitude he has shown earlier, how can anyone trust him? He is an expert in drama and acting in Bollywood, he is doing the same things in the court.”
Despite the strictness of the court, Rajpal Yadav has got relief for the time being. The court has maintained a stay on his arrest till the next hearing on October 5. However, he has been ordered to surrender his passport.
Rajpal Yadav was sentenced to three months imprisonment each in seven cases related to check bounce. Delhi High Court had directed him to surrender by September 10. After this the actor approached the Supreme Court.
In the hearing held on September 8, the Supreme Court had said that if Rajpal Yadav and other petitioners deposit Rs 5 crore in the registry by Wednesday, then they can be exempted from surrendering for the time being. However, he could not deposit the amount. Despite this, the Supreme Court has given him interim relief from arrest and has now given him the last chance to deposit Rs 2 crore.
