New Delhi. Due to modern lifestyle, unbalanced eating habits and mental stress, the risk of serious brain related diseases is increasing rapidly. One major group of these health problems is. Cerebrovascular diseases. These diseases occur when the arteries or veins that supply blood to the brain get blocked or burst. If not identified in time, this condition can lead to permanent physical disability or prove fatal.

What are cerebrovascular diseases?

'Cerebro' means brain and 'vascular' refers to blood vessels. When the flow of blood that supplies oxygen and nutrients to the brain is disrupted, brain cells begin to destroy rapidly. According to reports, about 65 lakh (6.5 million) people die from this disease annually due to stroke and cerebrovascular diseases alone.

Health experts mainly give the following reasons.

Ischemic Stroke: Stoppage of blood flow in the brain due to the formation of a blood clot or narrowing of the artery.

Hemorrhagic Stroke : Rupture of a blood vessel in the brain and internal bleeding due to high blood pressure or weakness.

Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA / Mini Stroke): Interruption of blood supply to the brain for some time. This is considered an advance warning of an impending serious stroke.

Aneurysm: Balloon-like swelling in the walls of the arteries, which is at risk of bursting.

According to experts, these diseases are mainly related to poor lifestyle and medical conditions. High blood pressure (High BP) is the biggest cause of cerebrovascular diseases.

Smoking and intoxication: It makes the arteries hard and narrow.

High cholesterol and diabetes: Accumulation of plaque (fat) in blood vessels causes blockage. Obesity and physical inactivity, sedentary routine and uncontrolled weight double the risk of stroke.

According to the doctor, immediate treatment is required if blood flow stops in the brain. Its initial signs can be easily understood from the FAST rule:

F (Face): Drooping or numbness of one side of the face when laughing or speaking.

A (Arms): One arm feels weak or falls down when both arms are raised.

S (Speech): Faltering in speaking or difficulty in understanding things.

T (Time): As soon as such symptoms appear, immediately contact the nearest hospital or emergency medical service without delay.

Health experts say that the risk of cerebrovascular diseases can be reduced to a great extent by adopting the right lifestyle.

Keep blood pressure and sugar under control. Get regular health checkups done. Balanced diet- Increase the amount of fiber, fruits and vegetables in the diet and lighten the intake of salt. Do yoga daily, walk for at least 30 minutes or do aerobic exercise. Avoid smoking and alcohol – Avoid tobacco and excessive alcohol consumption.
