Heart beat stopped, body became cold – yet life returned, medical science surprised

New Delhi. A surprising case has come to light in Yakutia, Siberia region of Russia, which doctors are considering as a “Medical Miracle”. A man, who lay without breathing and without a heartbeat for about 5 hours in the extreme cold, was declared clinically dead by the doctors. But later with the help of “Gradual Thawing” technique he got life again.

Man found unconscious in -20°C cold
According to reports, the man had fallen outside under the influence of alcohol. The temperature at that time was around -20 degrees Celsius (-4°F). When the passers-by saw him, he was completely unconscious and there was no movement in his body. On reaching the hospital, doctors found no pulse, no breathing and no heartbeat in the ECG.

Doctors did not give up hope
Doctors at Mirny Hospital immediately put him on “gradual rewarming.”
Doctors slowly raised his body temperature—from 25°C to 34°C—over about 4 hours.
If the body was heated suddenly, there was a risk of the heart and veins bursting. Therefore, treatment was done with utmost care.

heartbeat returned again
When the body temperature reached 34°C, doctors administered CPR and life-saving medicines.
About 25 minutes later, a faint heartbeat appeared on the monitor – and that’s when his comeback began.

Cold became the ‘protector’, otherwise death was certain.
According to doctors, this case is special because the extreme cold had put the body into “preservation mode”. In this condition the oxygen requirement of the body is greatly reduced, due to which the organs can remain safe for a long time.

  • Went home from hospital in 5 days
The most shocking thing was that after being in coma for 24 hours, the person became completely conscious.
Just 5 days later he walked out of the hospital walking on his feet without any serious brain or organ damage.
