The board said that Henrique Malan was made the head coach of the Ireland cricket team in the year 2022. His contract was till the beginning of 2027. However, he has already decided to leave the responsibility of head coach. Ireland Cricket has appointed Gary Wilson as the new head coach of the men’s team.
Why did Henrique Malan resign?
Ireland cricket team’s high performance director Graham West has given the reason for Malan’s resignation. He told that for the last few months, discussions were going on regarding the preparations for the 2027 World Cup qualifiers. Malan himself expressed his desire to step back at this juncture, so that the new coach gets time to adjust to the team before the ODI series against Afghanistan in August.
