Hema Malini told that when she started campaigning for BJP, the party used to send her to different states and far-flung areas of the country. During these tours, Dharmendra was extremely scared and worried about his safety every moment. Dharmendra would often ask Hema over the phone if she was really sure that she was safe amidst that huge crowd of election rallies? Giving full credit to her mother for entering politics, Hema said that initially she was not at all in favor of entering politics. But his mother explained to him that BJP was a loyal and good party under the leadership of Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Lal Krishna Advani. At the same time, Bollywood actor Vinod Khanna gave him practical guidance to move forward in the path of politics.
