Hero MotoCorp Buys Additional 3% Stake In Ather For ₹1,758 Cr

SUMMARY

Hero MotoCorp has now bought 1.18 Cr equity shares in Ather Energy for a sum of ₹1,758 Cr

Hero MotoCorp is doubling down on Ather on the back of the EV maker’s strong revenue growth, narrowing losses and a surging stock price

Post the deal, Hero’s total stake in Ather will increase to about 32.8% from 29.48% at the end of June

Auto giant Hero MotoCorp today bought additional 1.18 Cr shares of EV maker Ather via an open-market transaction for ₹1,758 Cr.

“We would like to inform you that the company has completed the purchase of 1,18,80,000 equity shares in Ather, for a total consideration of ₹1,758 Cr,” Hero MotoCorp said in a filing with the exchanges.

As per NSE data, the government of Singapore offloaded 1.18 Cr shares of the EV maker in a block deal at ₹1,480 each to rake in the amount. The shares that flooded the market were lapped up by Hero MotoCorp.

With this, Hero MotoCorp’s total stake in Ather has now increased to about 32.8%. The auto giant owned a 29.48% stake in the EV major at the end of June 2026.

This comes a month after Hero MotoCorp announced that it would invest an additional ₹1,000 Cr (about $103 Mn) in the electric two-wheeler maker.

The fresh investment comes as Ather looks to shore up its war chest amid intensifying competition in India’s electric two-wheeler market.

In June this year, the EV maker announced plans to raise up to ₹2,500 Cr for expansion, research and development, new products and manufacturing capacity.

Right after this, the electric two-wheeler maker raised about ₹1,300 Cr through a qualified institutional placement (QIP) in July. In the same month, Ather’s board also approved a proposal to raise an additional ₹1,200 Cr via a preferential issue.

The development comes as Ather continues to see strong escooter volume growth and a rise in contribution from high-margin non-vehicle revenue streams such as software subscriptions, charging services, accessories, spare parts and after-sales services.

As a result, Ather Energy managed to narrow its consolidated net loss by 71% to ₹51.1 Cr in Q1 FY27 from ₹178.2 Cr a year earlier. Meanwhile, operating revenue surged 89% YoY to ₹1,216.9 Cr during the quarter under review.

On the back of healthy financial results, shares of the EV maker have surged more than 34.3% in the past month and are up more than 114.1% on a year-to-date (YTD) basis.

Buoyed by Hero MotoCorp picking up a stake in the company, Ather shares hit a 52-week high of ₹1,629.15 on the BSE. It pared some of the gains to finally close the day 9.3% higher at ₹1,612 apiece on the BSE. Market capitalisation of the company also stood at ₹63,592.30 Cr (around $6.6 Bn).
