High buildings cannot be built by eliminating greenery… Delhi High Court strongly reprimands the Central Government.

Knews Desk- Delhi High Court has made strong remarks to the Central Government regarding the green areas and open grounds present in the Lutyens area of the capital. The court said that Delhi is already facing a serious problem of pollution and in such a situation it is not appropriate to build tall buildings by destroying the remaining green areas.

The matter came to light during the ongoing hearing regarding plots related to Delhi Gymkhana Club, Indian Polo Club and Delhi Race Club. The court raised questions on the government’s plan under which land in these areas is to be acquired. During the hearing, the justice remarked that Delhi was already facing a “suffocation” situation and the few green areas left in the city were being destroyed.

The High Court also asked what would happen to the structures of heritage and historical importance present there if these lands are acquired. The court wanted to know clearly from the government what its plan is for the conservation of these areas. During the hearing, the need to maintain a balance between environmental protection and urban development was also emphasized. The court indicated that saving green areas in the capital is a matter of public interest and cannot be ignored in the name of development.

This matter has come to light at a time when air pollution, increasing population and decreasing green areas in Delhi have become a matter of constant concern. The court’s strict comments are being considered important from the point of view of environmental protection.
