Himachal: School with the support of 1 teacher, waiting for recruitment, Education Minister himself gave the data

The bitter truth of the education system has come to light in the Himachal Assembly. The figures revealed in the Assembly regarding the government education system in the state have raised many serious questions. There are 3,214 government primary schools in the state, where the responsibility of entire education rests on the shoulders of only one teacher. Not only this, 101 government secondary schools are also running with the support of one teacher each.

The biggest question is that on one hand there are less teachers in schools and on the other hand thousands of teachers are waiting for recruitment. A total of 5,209 posts of JBT and TGT are lying vacant in the state. These include 4,019 posts of JBT alone. There are 646 vacant posts of Arts, 318 of Non-Medical and 226 of Medical in TGT.

Whole class depends on one teacher

In the Assembly, Education Minister Rohit Thakur said in written reply to the questions of the MLAs that 3,214 primary and 101 secondary schools of the state are being run with the help of one teacher each. Apart from this, education is being imparted in 393 primary and three secondary schools through teachers posted on deputation. This means that in many government schools, one teacher has to handle the entire educational responsibility of many classes, different subjects and children. It is natural for this to have a direct impact on the quality of education and the personal attention that children receive.

More than 4 thousand posts of JBT are vacant

Out of 20,116 sanctioned posts of JBT in the state, 14,132 posts are filled, while 4,019 posts are vacant. A large number of posts are vacant even in different categories of TGT. Overall, out of 36,835 sanctioned posts of JBT-TGT, 29,155 are filled. These figures are raising serious questions on the education system of the state.

Questions on the speed of recruitment also

There were 1,190 TGT posts vacant till 31 July 2026. Out of these, the process of filling 764 posts is going on, but out of these only 13 posts are being filled through batchwise recruitment. The government said that at present, apart from these 13 posts, batchwise recruitment process is not going on for any other post of TGT. According to the government, 1,161 posts of JBT and 1,042 posts of TGT were filled under the batchwise quota fixed in 2024. It has also been said that the remaining vacancies will be filled in a phased manner.

Questions raised on the system

These figures revealed in the Assembly present such a picture of the government education system of Himachal, in which many schools are waiting for teachers and many teachers are waiting for the recruitment process. The biggest question is, when teachers are needed in schools and thousands of posts are vacant despite being approved, then why the delay in speeding up the recruitment process? This question is also important because in hilly and remote areas, government schools are the biggest support for children's education. In such a situation, thousands of schools running on the basis of one teacher are not just a figure, but a question related to the future of thousands of children of Himachal.
