Himanta Biswa Sarma again becomes a contender for the command of Assam, will take oath as Chief Minister on this date; PM Modi will be the chief guest
Guwahati. In the important meeting of BJP and NDA legislative party held on Sunday, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma was unanimously elected as the leader. With this, the way for him to become the Chief Minister of Assam for the second consecutive time has been completely cleared. He will take oath as Chief Minister on May 12, which will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi as the chief guest.
Union Minister JP Nadda informed about this decision in the meeting. Eight BJP MLAs proposed Sarma’s name, which was unanimously accepted by all the members. JP Nadda and Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini were present as central observers and co-observers during this process.
NDA allies Assam Gana Parishad (AGP) and Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) also supported Himanta Biswa Sarma’s leadership, leading to his appointment unanimously.
After this, Sarma and senior NDA leaders met Governor Laxman Prasad Acharya and staked claim to form the new government.
In the recently held Assam Assembly elections, NDA performed brilliantly and achieved two-third majority. BJP alone won 82 seats, while AGP and BPF got 10 seats each. With this strong mandate the alliance has further strengthened its position in the state.
