Home Minister trapped after placing a bet of Rs 500 in Kabaddi match. Parmeshwar, the court ordered to register FIR: – ..

News India Live, Digital Desk: Karnataka Home Minister Dr. G. Parameshwara (Dr. G. Parameshwara) is embroiled in legal trouble over a simple bet. Taking cognizance of a private complaint, a Bengaluru court on Tuesday (April 21, 2026) ordered registration of an FIR against the Home Minister and Tumakuru Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shubha Kalyan. The case pertains to publicly placing and accepting a bet of Rs 500 during a Kabaddi match.

What is the whole matter?

The dispute dates back to October 2025, when a state-level Kabaddi tournament was organized in Tumakuru. The final match was being played between the teams of Vijayapura and Dakshina Kannada on 19 October 2025.

Condition Disclosure: During the match, Home Minister G. Parmeshwar made a ‘friendly’ bet of Rs 500 with Deputy Commissioner Shubha Kalyan. The minister was supporting the team of Vijayapura.

Defeat and public confession: In the match, Dakshina Kannada team defeated Vijayapura 36-26. During the award distribution ceremony, the Home Minister publicly admitted on the mic that he had lost a bet of Rs 500 with the DC and he would have to repay this amount.

Court’s strict comment: “Promoting betting is a crime”

Complainant H.R. Nagabhushan had filed the petition in the 42nd Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (ACJM) court of Bengaluru. The court said during the hearing: “Betting is prohibited by law. Publicly indulging in and promoting such activities by a person holding a constitutional office sets a bad example.”

The court has directed the Kodigehalli police station of Tumakuru to take action against the Home Minister and the Deputy Commissioner. Indian Judicial Code (BNS) Register a case under relevant sections and start a detailed investigation.

No prior permission required

The court made an important observation and clarified that no prior permission from the government is required to register an FIR in this case. The Court believes that betting on sports is not a part of the ‘Official Duties’ of the Home Minister or the Deputy Commissioner, hence they are not entitled to any special protection in this matter.

Opposition attacks, minister clarifies

After this order, the politics of Karnataka has come to a boil. Opposition parties have demanded the resignation of the Home Minister, while G. Parmeshwar’s supporters say it was just a ‘joke’ and ‘friendly bet’ being blown out of proportion. At present, the Home Minister has not given any direct statement on this legal order, but the police is now preparing to investigate the matter after the court order.
