Home Ministry keeping an eye on the monsoon situation across the country, providing all possible assistance to the affected states.

New Delhi, 23 July. The Union Home Ministry is continuously monitoring the situation of ongoing monsoon and heavy rains across the country. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the guidance of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the Ministry is providing all possible assistance to the affected states and union territories. The Home Ministry says that all concerned agencies are active in issuing timely warnings, coordinating relief and rescue operations and assessing the damage.

The Integrated Control Room (ICT) of the Home Ministry is being operated in coordination with other central agencies including India Meteorological Department (IMD), Central Water Commission (CWC) and Indian National Center for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS). It is monitoring the relief and rescue operations round the clock along with sending timely alerts to the state and district emergency operation centres.

Heavy rains and landslides in many states

During July 2026, heavy rains and landslides have occurred in many states and union territories including Nagaland, Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, West Bengal, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu and Jammu and Kashmir, affecting life.

NDRF has 52 saved people2206 delivered safely

The National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) along with the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), state police and local administration is engaged in relief and rescue operations. Teams have already been deployed in sensitive areas. In the last one week, NDRF rescued 52 people and evacuated 2,206 people to safe places.

Defense Ministry also cooperates in relief work

In coordination with the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Ministry of Defense has also provided significant assistance in rescue operations, transportation of people and relief material and distribution of relief in flood affected areas by quickly utilizing its resources.

Preparations were reviewed before monsoon

The Home Ministry said that preparations for heat wave and possible pre-monsoon floods were reviewed under the chairmanship of Union Home Minister Amit Shah on May 10, 2026. After this, the preparations to deal with heavy rains, cloud bursts, floods and landslides in Jammu and Kashmir on June 3, 2026 were also reviewed. The preparations for the Char Dham Yatra route were also regularly monitored.

Central teams are assessing the damage

On the instructions of the Home Minister, inter-ministerial central teams visited the affected areas of Arunachal Pradesh and Assam between July 7 and 10, 2026, to assess the damage so that necessary financial assistance can be provided from the National Disaster Relief Fund. Another inter-ministerial central team will visit the flood-affected areas of Assam from July 25, 2026, to conduct a detailed assessment of the damage.

Rainfall deficit estimated 30% reduced to 15%

According to the Home Ministry, the recent heavy rains have affected life in some states, but there has been a significant improvement in the rainfall deficit across the country. While earlier the rainfall deficit was estimated to be around 30%, it has now come down to around 15%.
