Electric SUV: Honda is preparing to enter the Indian electric car market with its new electric SUV. The company will unveil the production-ready version of its ‘0 Alpha’ electric SUV concept on December 2, 2026. The special thing is that Honda has also started testing this SUV in India. It is expected that it can be launched in the Indian market in early 2027. The production model will be introduced with the name ‘Honda Alpha’, with the ‘0’ dropped.
Toshiyuki Yanagisawa, President and CEO of Honda Cars India, has described this model as important for the company’s electric mobility strategy. According to him, Honda aims to provide Indian customers with superior quality, reliable performance and great driving experience with advanced electric technology. The company also plans to make India the global production base for this electric SUV in the future. This shows Honda’s commitment towards the Indian market.
A glimpse of the concept model will be visible in the design
The pictures revealed during testing indicate that the design of the new Honda Alpha will be very similar to its concept model. A straight and boxy design can be seen at the front and rear of the SUV. Apart from this, the distinctive tail lamps on both sides of the rear windscreen and the thick C-pillar will distinguish its look. The design of its bumper also appears to be similar to the concept model.
What is the expectation regarding battery and range?
Honda has not yet shared official information related to the battery pack and performance of this electric SUV. However, it is expected that battery options ranging from 50 to 70 kWh can be found in it. The company may aim to offer it with a real-world range of 400 to 500 kilometers on a full charge.
In terms of size also, the new Honda Alpha is likely to be bigger than the Hyundai Creta Electric and Maruti Suzuki E-Vitara. After its launch in the Indian market, it will compete with major vehicles in the electric SUV segment.
