If you’re a lover of adventure and speed, but are tired of repeatedly pressing the clutch in city traffic, the Honda NX500 E-Clutch is a boon. Honda has launched this middle-weight adventure tourer in India at ₹7.44 lakh, featuring the world’s first electronic clutch technology. This bike is not only ideal for long-distance journeys, but its e-clutch technology has also made gear shifting so seamless that you’ll enjoy a smooth ride without any interruptions.

What is this unique technology?

Honda has revolutionized the automotive world by introducing the e-clutch system in this new adventure bike. Simply put, it eliminates the need to use the clutch lever when starting, stopping, and changing gears. Most importantly, the gearbox remains manual, meaning the ride remains seamless.

This system uses a sophisticated electronic actuator that automatically manages the clutch during gear shifts. However, it’s not a fully automatic gearbox. If the rider wishes, they can manually engage the clutch lever at any time. As soon as you touch the lever, the system will immediately disengage, giving you complete control. Furthermore, you can also completely disable this function via the bike’s TFT screen.

Performance and Advanced Specifications

The heart of the bike, the engine, remains unchanged, but the e-clutch hardware has increased its weight by 3 kg to 199 kg. It features the same reliable 471cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine, which produces 46 bhp of power at 8,600 rpm and 43 Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm. This engine is popular among adventure enthusiasts for its smooth and linear power delivery.

For a comfortable ride on rough terrain and mountains, it features Showa SFF-BP upside-down forks and a preload-adjustable rear monoshock suspension. For safety, it features twin front disc brakes with dual-channel ABS. Furthermore, for better grip on rough terrain, it features 19-inch front and 17-inch rear wheels, making it a perfect touring machine.

Advanced Features and Smart Connectivity

Honda has made the bike quite high-tech in terms of style and features. It features a 5-inch color TFT display with ‘Honda RoadSync’ connectivity. This allows you to view navigation, receive calls, and control music while riding. For safety, it also includes powerful features like Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC), which prevents the bike from skidding. Additionally, it features full LED lighting throughout, making the road clearly visible even at night.

Price and Market Competition

Honda has priced the NX500 E-Clutch at ₹1.11 lakh more than the standard model. While the model without the e-clutch is available for ₹6.33 lakh, the variant with this latest technology will cost you ₹7.44 lakh (ex-showroom). In the Indian market, it competes with the recently launched BMW F 450 GS Trophy, which is priced around ₹5.30 lakh. However, Honda’s e-clutch technology offers a unique experience that is currently unavailable on any other bike in this segment.
